TENERIFE

The largest of Spain's Canary Islands, located off the northwest coast of Africa. Known for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, diverse ecosystems and year-round sunshine, Tenerife offers a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. It’s also the place where Vicente lived from the age of 13 and where our love story began, making it one of the most special places in the world for us.

Best Time to Visit

Tenerife is a year-round destination, thanks to its mild subtropical climate. Spring and autumn offer warm days, fewer crowds, and lower prices. Summer is hot and popular, especially in the south. Winter is mild and sunny - perfect for escaping colder parts of Europe.

How Long to Stay

We recommend 5–7 days to experience the island’s diversity, but you can easily fill 10+ days here if you love slow travel or hiking. Check out our itineraries in the articles below or more detailed ones in our e-book.

How to Get Around

Renting a car is by far the best way to explore Tenerife. The roads are in good condition, and you’ll need your own transport to reach many natural attractions and off-the-beaten-path villages. Public transport is reliable in major towns, but limited in rural or mountainous areas.

Attractions

No trip is complete without visiting Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain, or exploring the lush trails of Anaga Rural Park. Visit the dramatic cliffs of Los Gigantes, stroll the streets of La Laguna, or spot dolphins on a boat tour from the south. For a laid-back vibe, head to El Médano, a beach town known for windsurfing and sunsets.

Where to Stay

Your base depends on your travel style: The south (like Costa Adeje) is sunny and beachy, perfect for relaxing in resorts. The north (like La Laguna or Puerto de la Cruz) offers a more local feel, with lush landscapes and colonial charm. Staying near Teide National Park is ideal for hiking and stargazing. Tenerife offers a mix of guesthouses, rural fincas, seaside apartments and hotels.

Local Food

Tenerife’s cuisine is simple, flavourful, and full of local identity. For an authentic experience, eat at a guachinche — family-run restaurants often hidden in garages or gardens. Must-try dishes include Papas arrugadas, Gofio, fresh seafood and wines.
